I chose one of my favorite songs, The Mating Game by Bitter:Sweet. I love the spy movie theme feel the song has, and the way it combines synthesized sounds and live recordings of musical instruments.

I started this today, so it's got a long way to go before it's finished. I spent most of the period messing around in the Glyphs panel and the font Bickham Script. Swirls. teehee. The other font I chose is Bodoni in Book, Poster Conde... read more.

We need to do one every week now. We had a really great lecture on facial anatomy last Thursday. I used standard 6b and 2b pencils to draw this. I used 6b to block in shadows, and 2b for details. I think the technique I used in class made this much better than the one I drew last week. I did a lot of drawing via subtraction, rather than addition. I wish I had something to really bump the highlights, but both chalk and white charcoal didn't do a thing. M... read more.

I may upload doodle blog stuff regularly in the future. I've been so busy lately, and I'm really tired. I haven't done any artwork outside of the doodlelog and class. That's why I'm doing the doodlelog though, so at least I draw something every day. =P

In the downtime, I've been playing Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks. I'm enjoying it well enough, but I feel like it's kind of buggy or unfinished. It's hard to describe. And speaking ... read more.

These are for the most part drawn in 15 minutes or less. I feel so much more free to experiment when I'm basically doing a throw-away drawing every day. I'd really like do develop the picture with Luna from Sailor Moon, but it'll have to wait at the end of my queue.

Not good for art, or very good, depending. I drew this in figure drawing on Tuesday. I think I'm getting the hang of this. Our model was so pretty. I love her hair. I've been avoiding contouring while working with charcoal, if I can. I jump into shading, both around and inside the figure, as soon as I have a good idea of what the figure looks like. That line over her arm is really bugging me. I'm glad that I'm finally getting the hang of drawing over t... read more.

She requested that I draw something based on her designs for the Great Moon Redesign. I came up with this, which sadly doesn't show off as much of the super cute design as I would like. I used a Sakura 03 for this, but I really wish I had a new 05 and 08. Time to go to the art store, I guess. =P
I have a few more figure drawings I'd like to post! I kicked butt in class on Thursday. ... read more.

I drew this as my 10 minute doodle today, but I colored it because I was so pleased with it. This is Granny Weatherwax, another character from the Discworld books. She's awesome.

I drew this today in figure drawing, and I feel so awesome. I was really pumped in class today.
So we gestured out the drawing and glued on black paper for the dark-dark areas. I didn't even bother to contour this, I just started to flesh out the values. I went to town with my kneaded eraser. Near the end, I added the highlights in white chalk.
It's not nearly perfect, but I couldn't have drawn this three weeks ago. My teacher ... read more.

Here are a couple of figure drawings from last class. Not particularly good. What is impressive, however, is that I had to draw the one on the left from memory. The model was in the other room. It's really hard! We just had an introductory lesson, most of which was speed drawing. I did the one on the right in 5 minutes. Next week we will learn gesture drawing (again, eheh) and hands/feet.
I have been very good at drawing a doodle every day in my doodlelog. I got ... read more.

On the top right side of the screen, you'll see a box labeled "Today's Doodle." This is a feed of my new tumblelog, or should I say, doodlelog. My New Year resolution was to do one 10-15 minute doodle every day and keep track of my progress via the microblogging service Tumblr. I hope that this exercise will help me improve my skills and confidence. I think it will be a lot of fun, too! I actually started on New Year's Eve, so if I c... read more.
